Pair from Goon Squad sentenced to federal prison | State

Two members of the “Goon Squad” from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department were ordered to serve long terms in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges that stemmed from the torture and brutalization of two black men during a warrantless raid more than a year ago.
Hunter Elward was sentenced to 241 months (20 years and one month) and Jeffery Middleton was sentenced to 210 months (17-1/2 years) by Judge Tom S. Lee in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi. Both were facing up to 30 years behind bars. They still face state charges but any sentence received there will be served concurrently — or at the same time — as the federal sentences. Federal time is day-for-day, with no chance for early release.
