How To Make A Daffodil Wreath Spring Wreath Ideas

Perfect as a spring wreath or Easter decoration, this daffodil wreath is sure to spread seasonal cheer and bring life to a front door or inside wall hanging. Cheerful yellow narcissus respond well to being cut short and massed together in a spring wreath display and, if cared for once arranged, can last over two weeks.

How to make a daffodil wreath

Tip: Follow the RHS's lead and avoid using floral foam when flower arranging as it's synthetic, non-biodegradable and can release toxins.

Method:

Make sure your moss is damp so the daffodils can absorb moisture from it. Pad out your twine wreath base with clumps of moss, attaching it using wire. You want the moss to create a firm, living wreath structure ready to add your flowers to. You can buy this part ready made if you'd prefer – see products above.

Cut some early narcissus from the garden or buy a couple of bunches from a florist. A few different shades will add interest to your wreath. Cut a handful of short stems of early blossom – the cherry plum, Prunus cerasifera has very early, elegant flowers.

Choose a ribbon and tie to the wreath base, ready to hang once finished.

Cut the narcissus so that the stems are approximately 8cm in length. Make sure you keep the stems in water until the moment you are ready to attach them.

Gently push the stems into the moss and secure with a small piece of wire if needed. Continue adding them until you have a dense covering of narcissus. Finish by adding the cherry blossom as a final flourish.

Hang the wreath up outside. Make sure you keep the moss damp by spritzing regularly and generously with water. Tend to your spring wreath daily to and reposition any daffodils that may have fallen out of place. The daffodil heads are delicate so make sure your hanging spring daffodil wreath is not in direct wind, rain or disturbance. Hung on a door under a porch is ideal.

Tip: Once your daffodil wreath has passed its best, gently take it apart, keeping all the wire attachments and wreath base for your next floral display. Make sure there is as little waste as possible.
