Marc Warren admits he's scared of fairies and would 'never get involved' in magic

Telly actor Marc Warren has confessed he is terrified of fairies.

The star, 56, believes they exist and is convinced that they are involved with “powerful forces”.

His conviction began years ago when he starred in 2015 TV drama Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.

The BBC series was about magic and bringing people back from the dead.

Marc played a character called The Gentleman, who was King of the Fairies.

The experience affected him so much he still thinks about it to this day.

He said: “What I learnt from that is, you don’t mess with the fairy world and all that stuff. I have great respect for it.

“I don’t practice any of it. I would never get involved in any of that stuff. There are a lot of powerful forces around…”

He was also affected by the experience of wearing long false nails on set, admitting it was a struggle to go to the loo.

He told the BBC: "Probably the most difficult element [...] was the long nails that I wore. These were not easy to wear when it came to toilet breaks.

"Consequently I had to drink little and I couldn’t use any gadgets for texting or emails in between scenes."

The star added to Sci-Fi Bulletin: "It took three hours to get the whole make-up, hair and costume done and then I’d stay in it as long as I was filming.

"To get rid of it took minutes: it’s a long time getting it on, and it has to be absolutely right because you’re shooting in HD, but getting it off is just get the spirit gum off, get the wig off, and get in the car and go!"

Marc was reminded of that experience while making the new series of hit crime drama Van Der Valk, in which he plays an Amsterdam-based detective.

One episode, featuring eerie beings, brought back his feelings about fairies.

Marc said: “The episode is about the occult and summoning demons.”

You can watch it on July 2 at 8pm on ITV1.
